Do you want to teach students how to record music?
This INTRO to AUDIO course design is intended to be a succint, approachable and practical exploration of the basics of recording
The purpose of this instructional design is to introduce the topic of ‘Audio Recording Technologies’ to community college students through a 16-week, credit-earning course.
WHY AUDIO RECORDING?
Learning how to use recording technology is valuable for several reasons.
Firstly, understanding the techniques and technologies for recording audio can be very helpful for musicians.Whether recording their own albums and demos, capturing a live performance for the sake of reflection and improvement, using the internet to distribute songs, or simply having an understanding of the processes and practices of a professional recording studio, knowing how the technology works can help take musicians to the next level.
Secondly, with the digital revolution, recording technologies are becoming more readily available (for example, Garage Band as a stock application on Apple computers) and music is becoming more easily distributable (ex. iTunes, Youtube, Soundcloud, Reverbnation, Bandcamp) - digital sound is prevalent in our personal worlds. This course will help students maximize this rapidly expanding technology and keep up to date with new changes.
Thirdly, these skills can help direct a student to find work in the field.Examples for possible employment include: live sound reinforcement, music recording and mixing engineer, audiovisual technician, mastering engineer, music distribution, and audio for video and television.
